IEC Foundation
Non-Profit Foundation Supporting Electrical Contractors Education
Developed brand identity including logo and style guide. Designed and developed a custom website for IEC Foundation. We help them maintain their website, develop new pages, and keep the industry updated on grants, scholarships, and programming supporting electricians and contractors.

We set out to redesign the IEC Foundation logo and visual brand to be more adaptable to different use cases, improve design quality, allude to a connection to IEC, but maintain a distinct brand identity for the Foundation.

We stacked the type vertically for a more adaptable layout (taller where the original was very wide) and increased the weight of “Foundation” to set both IEC and Foundation equally on the perceived visual hierarchy.
We extrapolated the diagonal cut line from the “C” and spacing lines between “IEC” and “Foundation” to form the framework of a new lightning bolt icon that naturally fits with the logo wordmark.

We used those lines to build a rectangle and the distance between “I” and “C” punches out white space around the lightning bolt. The goal here is to create a logo icon that matches the logo type because it is built from its components.
We also changed the yellow text to blue to ensure that all text remains legible and meets accessibility contrast standards.

The diagonal and horizontal lines formed by the lightning bolt punch out create a schewed grid that we color to resemble bricks or stones - implying apprentices building a career/ The IEC Foundation building a future for the industry.
We fine tuned spacing and letter shapes to improve legibility and logo use adaptability.
